Using the Google Popup Blocker
The Google toolbar Popup Blocker is enabled by default when you install the Google Toolbar
The Google Browser Toolbar
Quick Allow
To allow a Popup only once without changing your Popup Blocker general or site settings hold down the Ctrl Key and click the link that you wish to open.
Can I see a list of blocked popups?
The Google Toolbar's Popup Blocker does not maintain or store a list of blocked popups. At this time, it is not possible to view or launch previously blocked popups.
Can I view my Popup Blocker whitelist?
The whitelist feature is built internally into the Google Popup Blocker, and Toolbar users create and maintain their own personal whitelists. Because this is a customisable feature, google do not provide a way to view a list of sites that have been added. You can check the text on the Popup Blocker button to determine if the blocker is active on a particular site. If the button displays the number of ads you've blocked, then the Popup Blocker is enabled on that site. If the button reads then the Popup Blocker has been disabled and that site is on your whitelist. If you would like to remove a site from your whitelist, visit that site and click the Popup Blocker button. The button text will change to display the number of ads you've blocked. The changed text indicates that the site has been removed from your whitelist, and the Popup Blocker will resume activity on that site.
How can I open a link that the Popup Blocker is blocking?
You can let a pop-up or new window through by holding the Ctrl key while clicking the link that generates a pop-up window. This will prevent the new window from being blocked.
Does the Popup Blocker work in full screen (F11) mode?
The Popup Blocker is active only when the Toolbar is visible. When you use Internet Explorer 6 in full screen mode (by pressing the F11 key), initially, the Google Toolbar will not be displayed and the Popup Blocker will not be active. To activate the Popup Blocker, right-click on the navigation area and check the option Google Once The Toolbar is displayed, the Popup Blocker will be enabled.
Does the Popup Blocker stop Flash ads?
The Google Toolbar Popup Blocker is designed to block popups that appear in a new window. Animated flash ads that appear in the current browser window are not blocked by our Popup Blocker. Because these online ads do not open in a separate window, they are considered to be part of the page's content. At this time, many webpages contain useful information in this format.
How do I allow popups on certain sites?
Sites sometimes communicate useful information with pop-up windows. The Google Popup Blocker can be told to remember these sites so pop-up windows are allowed to launch. This information is stored on your computer in what's known as a “whitelist” (as opposed to a “blacklist”). The Popup Blocker uses the whitelist to turn itself off when you visit sites whose popups you would like to see. To add a site to your whitelist, visit the site and press the Popup Blocker button. The button text will change to read “Popups okay,” indicating that the Popup Blocker is disabled on the site in question. If you would like to remove a site from your whitelist, visit that site and click the button. The button text will change to display the number of ads you've blocked. The changed text indicates that the site has been removed from your whitelist, and the Popup Blocker will resume activity on that site. Please note that it is not possible to view or manually edit the whitelist. You can only add and remove sites from this list by toggling the Popup Blocker button on and off. If the Popup Blocker is preventing a new window from opening, you can always let a new window open from a “blocked“ site by holding down the Ctrl key while you click on a link. Finally, if you'd like to disable the Popup Blocker completely, please follow the instructions below:
For the Google Toolbar 4.0:
- Click the button on your Toolbar and choose
- Select the More tab.
- Un-check the box next to Popup Blocker
