When you encounter a Popup in Opera 9 you will be notified by a popup dialogue in the top right hand corner of the Browser. You can click on the warning to enable to popup to open.

Using the Opera 9 Popup Blocker
Opera 9 will try to distinguish pop-ups that you have requested (typically log-in pages or similar) from pop-ups launched automatically from Web sites (typically advertising).
You can also choose to block all pop-ups, to open all pop-ups, and to open all pop-ups but only display them behind your other open tabs. Remember that you can also use site preferences for pop-up settings.
To define your general Popup settings go to and the General Tab. Choose how you want to handle popups from the Pop-ups drop down menu.

Change the way that Popups are handled on a per site basis.
Whilst surfing the site on which you would like to change preferences. Right click the page and select from the context menu.
Next choose the way you wish to handle popups on that site only by selecting your preference from the Pop-ups drop down menu.
