Using Google to search the internet
Toolbar Search Field The search field in Camino 1’s toolbar gives you the ability to search for pages on the world wide web with ease. Simply click on the search field that says “Google” in the top right corner of the application and begin typing in the item you’d like to search for. Pressing enter will take you to the Google search results page.

The search field should already be on the toolbar when you run Camino 1, but if that’s not the case, follow the instructions in the Setting Up Camino 1 documentation to add the search field to your toolbar.

Using Google to find images on the internet
Search with Google Images Searching for images is almost identical to the method used to search for pages. Simply click the small magnifying glass icon on the search field and select Google Images from the drop-down menu. Then search as normal.

Using Google to find something on the website you’re reading

Searching for items on the current page using Google is almost identical to the method used to search for pages or images. Simply click the small magnifying glass icon in the search field and select Search this Site from the drop-down menu. Then search as normal (see above image for an example).

Adding additional search engines to the search field
If you want to add other search engines to the search field, please read the documentation on customizing the search field.

Finding something on the web page you are viewing
Using Find-As-You-Type

Find-As-You-Type allows you to search within a document without opening the Find panel or using CommandF:

  1. Make sure the focus is in the html content area (not the location bar, for example)
  2. Type a forward slash (/)
  3. Type as much of the string you want to search for until you find it.

After the slash key, everything you type becomes part of the search string and Camino 1 will highlight the first occurrence it can find in the document, scrolling to it if it needs to. If the string is not found, the status bar will tell you. You may press delete at any time to remove characters from the end of the search string. Camino 1 will scroll to find the closest match for the new search string. You may press esc at any time to stop the search, or let it time out automatically, which takes about 5 seconds. To find the next instance of your search string, press CommandG, and to find the previous instance, press CommandApple Up ArrowG

Finding a web page you previously visited
To search for a specific history item, you must be viewing history. To bring this up, either press CommandY or select View >> Show History. When in the History Manager view, there is a search field in the bottom right corner of the application. From there you can search Camino 1’s history items, and you can choose the search criteria (all, title, location) by clicking on the magnifying glass.

Finding a bookmark
To search for a specific bookmark, the Bookmarks Manager must be active and the bookmarks collection you wish to search must be selected. To bring this up, either press CommandB, select Bookmarks >> Show All Bookmarks, or select the Bookmarks icon from the toolbar. When in the Bookmarks Manager, there is a search field in the bottom right corner of the application. From there you can search Camino 1’s bookmarks, and you can choose the search criteria (all, title, location, keyword, description) by clicking on the magnifying glass.
