Downloading files
Some files may contain viruses or can otherwise harm your computer. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have adequate protection for your computer to protect yourself from online threats and malicious software. (see our security section and anti-virus section for more information)

If you run a program or open a file directly from a Web site and it causes your computer or other programs to shut down, you could lose unsaved work in any open files on your computer. We would suggest that you save the file to your Computer and check it with your anti-virus software before opening.

If you save a file or program to disk, you can access it or run it later. This allows you to take precautions, such as the following, before you open the file or run the program:

• Check the file with an virus scanner.
• Save your work and close other programs.
• Disconnect from the Internet or any other network connections.
• Use the same file multiple times i.e. on more than one machine.

Once you have clicked on a download link on a website the Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 File Download dialogue will appear. The File Download dialogue may vary slightly depending on the type of file you are downloading (see the examples below.)

Downloading an Executable file
NOTE: The security warning in the bottom of the file download dialogue. You have three options.

• Run (Run the .exe file directly [not recommended])
• Save (Save the file to disc [recommended])
• Cancel (Cancel and abort the download)

Only click Run if you are absolutely sure that you wish this file to run straight away. (We would suggest that you save the file.) Otherwise click Save to save the file to your computer.

When you click Save the Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Save As dialogue box will appear.

Navigate to where you would like to save the file and then click the Save button. The Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Download progress box will now appear.

Once the download of an executable file has completed the Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Download complete box will appear. You will now have the option to either.

• Run the file
• Open the folder containing the file. (We recommend that you take this options and check the file with your anti-virus software before proceeding.
• Close the Download Complete box and return to the file later.

NOTE: The security notice in the bottom of the file download dialogue. You have three options.

• Open (Open the file directly [not recommended])
• Save (Save the file to disc [recommended])
• Cancel (Cancel and abort the download)

• Find (Opens a browser window to provide information on the unknown file type)
• Save (Save the file to disc [recommended])
• Cancel (Cancel and abort the download)
